GFE 6.0 capabilities (Check out our Product Feature Video )

In the 6.0 release, we introduced a cluster resource manager that continuously monitors cluster memory preventing the dreaded out of memory conditions and the ability to dynamically rebalance partitioned data across the cluster. We will cover this and also cover several other features :

  • Horizontal partitioning with colocation: Colocate related data and parallelize behavior execution on the data nodes to achieve dramatically higher throughput and linear scaling for your application. The application behavior execution services are offered through the GemFire function service.
  • Use "Delta" for propagating updates: Instead of propagating the entire object when it is updated, now, we now offer a simple programming model to capture and propagate "deltas" all the way from a publishing client to all replicas and even to subscribing clients.
  • Enhancements to the native clients (C++, C#): Continuous queries, using connection pools and discovery service (locator) for load balancing and continuous load conditioning, etc.

What is coming?

  • What are some of the features that we are planning in the next release?
  • What is our technology strategy and direction for 2010?

Developer productivity tools

  • GemFire Monitor 2.0 - a UI tool for continuous monitoring of an entire cluster,
  • Gemfire Data browser - a UI tool for executing adhoc queries and to create continously refreshed views on data (using CQs)
  • GemFire Configurator - a UI configuration generator for developers that are new to GemFire
  • Controlling and managing GC pauses
  • We will talk about how "delta" plays a crucial role in GC reduction, recommendations on heap sizing, GC options and we will discuss an initiative underway to eradicate this plague.
